The Lateral Position Improved Airway Patency in Anesthetized Patient With Burn-Induced Cervico-Mento-Sternal Scar Contracture
A 78-year-old woman with burn-induced cervico-mento-sternal scar contracture was scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. During inhalational induction of sevoflurane, her airway patency deteriorated. The right lateral position and assist ventilation using a breathing bag dramatically improved her airway patency.

متن کاملAnesthetic management for a patient with severe mento-sternal contracture: difficult airway and scarce venous access -A case report-
There are many problems in the anesthetic management of patients with scar contracture. In this case, a 41-year-old male with severe scar contracture on his face, neck, anterior chest, and both shoulders underwent surgery for resurfacing with flaps. We tried to awake fiberoptic orotracheal intubation with GlideScope® Video laryngoscope guide after surgical release of contracture under local ane...
متن کاملSniffing position improves pharyngeal airway patency in anesthetized patients with obstructive sleep apnea.
BACKGROUND Appropriate bag-and-mask ventilation with patent airway is mandatory during induction of general anesthesia. Although the sniffing neck position is a traditionally recommended head and neck position during this critical period, knowledge of the influences of this position on the pharyngeal airway patency is still inadequate. METHODS Total muscle paralysis was induced with general a...
متن کاملThe neck burn scar contracture: a concept of effective treatment
A neck scar contracture can severely and negatively affect the function of mastication, phonic, or breathing and result in neck pain and issues with esthetics. The best way is of course to avoid such contracture by means of non-surgical treatment such as use of a growth factor. The basic fibroblastic growth factor is clinically well proven in decreasing scar formation and improving healing. The...
